Forest of Dean SportivePosted on: 1st-May-2011 by MartinNow in its sixth year, this Classic based on the town of Monmouth just across the border in Wales offers 89 miles of the most varied terrain available with three mile climbs followed by 25% walls.
Three club members took the opportunity to enter the event and ride with former runner up and King of the Mountains jersey winner in the 1988 Tour de France, Steven Rooks, winning the prestigious L’Alpe d’Huez stage along the way. Rooks also won several Classics in his career, including Liège–Bastogne–Liège, and a handful of week-long stage races.
