Thirteen riders contested the opening event in the Abertillery
Wheelers Thursday 10 series and the warm, calm conditions produced
some fast times. Quickest on the night was Gary Jones (M & D Cycles)
whose finishing time of 23-20 was just good enough to beat current
course record holder Andy Butcher (Cwmcarn Paragon) into second place.
The fastest Abertillery rider was Rhys Rowlands, who managed to
dip below the 25 minute mark for the first time since he returned from
an operation to his hip. Close on his heels was Ian Davies who finished
a mere one second slower than Rhys.
June Edwards's (Pontypool RCC) time of 27-00 was the fastest recorded
time by a lady on this course and bodes well for the coming Open events.
