Both Gareth Chislett and Ross Phillips were active throughout the race and despite their best efforts, the bunch stayed together until the finish. In the gallop for the line, Ross managed to follow the better wheels and got a top ten placing.

The raced started quietly with the bunch happy to roll around at a steady pace, until after a few laps, an attack by a Cardiff JIF rider raised the stakes and the field was strung out for the next several laps. As the bunch turned into the finishing straight, an attack by four riders managed to get a gap and working well together they quickly pulled out a half a lap lead. It soon became obvious that this was going to be the winning break of the race, and Martin Latewood tried to bridge across, but the rest of the bunch showed little interest, and stuck in no mans land, he quickly tired and went back to the safety of the bunch.

Eventually, the leaders managed to take the lap and the field was all together for the closing laps. Despite several attempts to escape off the front, only one other break managed to get away and this included the eventual winner and instigator of the original break Steve Bonicci, Economic Energy, who controlled the rest of the race to take a well deserved victory.
