Welsh Cyclo-Cross League Rnd 4

Posted:24th-Oct-2006

The first Abertillery rider to brave the elements at Risca Leisure centre was Eliot William riding his first ever cyclo-cross event in the youth race. Eliot started strongly and was in sixth position for most of the first lap, until he entered the really muddy section where his mountain bike was at a disadvantage to the other riders on cyclo-cross bikes whose narrow tyres cut through the mud to the harder surface below. Undetered, Eliot battled on and just missed out on a top ten placing, but had enough energy left at the end of the race to pop a wheelie over the finish line!

Three Abertillery riders signed on for the senior/vets race and as the weather detereated, Gareth Chislett and Tony Hudson enjoyed a close fought battle all race, until Gareth finally got his wheel in front on the run into the finsih line. Martin Latewood rolled around at the back of the race, so far back in fact that they didn't bother to put him on the results sheet! The race was won by Lee Williams, CC Abergavenny with last weeks winner Luke Mosely, Climb on Bikes, in second place.
