Sunday Run

Posted:13th-Nov-2006

Turning up at the square in Brynmawr, I was amased at the large numbers of people milling about waiting for the club run to start. They were all turned out in their best whistle and flutes, but they'd seemed to have left their bikes behind. We offered to wait for them while they nipped home to get them, but they decided they'd rather listen to some brass bands.

So, after a few moments by the War Memorial the five of us that had brought our bikes had to go on our own,

We headed over towards Merthyr and then dropped down the Taff valley towards Abercynon, where Rhys "Bionic" Rowlands decided to show us how good his new leg was. Hopefully, it's a Shimano leg as those Compag ones look good but they can't handle Welsh weather! We let him do all the work on the front untill he was knackered and then upped the pace (How many chances do you get to drop Rhys?)

We stopped at the large Tesco's in Ystrad Mynach where we managed to break their hot water urn, before crossing the new bridge in Blackwood and climbing over Pen-Y-Fan ponds and hammering down to Aberbeeg.

On the final run into Abertillery, Captain Wow broke away on the climb and narrowly missed getting arrested as he negotiated the road works.

Next weeks run will be to Builth Wells to watch the CX and hopefully sample the organic burgers!
